The third environmental monitoring buoy for measuring various parameters in our local port area was placed in the estuary. This action arises within the framework of the Environmental Monitoring of the Bahía Blanca estuary carried out by the Bahía Blanca Port Management Consortium.
The design corresponds to professionals from the Argentine Institute of Oceanography (IADO) belonging to the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research Bahía Blanca (CONICET) within the Coastal Environmental Monitoring Stations Program. (EMAC).
The environmental monitoring system includes the provision, installation, and commissioning of the platform, as well as the commissioning of air quality measurement stations, environmental noise, meteorological data, and toxic gas detection.
The objective of the system will be to collect and analyze various environmental indicators, complement the safety system in port operations, and provide early alerts to the community based on the control of alarms and events provided by the Environmental System.
The Environmental Monitoring System will consist of an air quality monitoring booth that will be installed on the port promenade, equipped with laboratory equipment for continuous monitoring of particulate matter. Two remote stations for continuous measurement of toxic gases (equipped to detect ammonia in the air), continuous measurement of environmental noise, and meteorological measurements have also been put into operation.
