The project developed by Redimec is one of the winners of the Smartport Lab Challenge 2021, for which it was awarded a monetary prize and tutoring from the technical team of the Port of Bahía Blanca. It then added financial support from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation through the Argentine Technological Fund. (FONTAR).
This project addresses the challenge of innovating to expand the surveying capacity in various types of bodies of water, both inland and open. Nowadays, many of these surveying and monitoring activities are dependent on hiring service companies with operationally expensive and sometimes inadequate vessels for certain bathymetric operations.
In response to this limitation, the company set the goal of developing a multipurpose platform with relatively low acquisition costs, low operating costs, operational flexibility, and environmental friendliness.
Therefore, the Redimec Engineering team selected all the control, communication, and sensing equipment, developed the engineering for their integration, designed the electrical system, and is currently working on testing and implementing all the systems on board, along with the development of precise software.
The profile of the vessel under development is defined by the following characteristics:
-Modularity and flexibility in the payload.
- Autonomous tracking of work routes and waypoints.
- Remote and real-time information and control.
- Electric propulsion.
- Minimum operating cost.
- Environmentally friendly.
Recently, Redimec conducted buoyancy tests on a prototype that is in an initial stage of construction and that the company is developing in collaboration with the Tandanor shipyard.
Having developed the flotation and balance tests, as well as the stability tests with load, the next stage is to equip the vehicle with the electronics developed in the laboratory, in order to prepare it for controllability and autonomy tests, with the aim of having a finalized vehicle, with tests conducted, by mid-2024. Once the prototype is completed, navigation and operation tests are planned in the estuary of the Port of Bahía Blanca.
